Housing Construction Project

Target group/Beneficiaries

30 marginalized forest dependent families in Ayyalur town Panchayat belonging to Valayar and scheduled caste/ST community

How beneficiaries were identified:

The Seeds Trust projects implemented in the region are monitored and supported by a committee of the tribal people.  The beneficiaries and the needs were assessed and validated by the committee, before finalizing the most needy families, which were selected for the housing project

Target Area

30 families in 10 villages in Ayyalur Panchayat, Vedasandur taluk, Dindigul district.

These houses were constructed with the contribution of SELAVIP Foundation (Chile), to the tune of USD.1200 per house, with additional contributions from the beneficiary families in the form of additional materials and labour

Ayyalur Sanitation Project

In addition to the houses, SEEDS also constructed toilets for 20 needy families in the area, under the Ayyalur sanitation project in 2018.  Now complete, this project includes individual toilet facilities for 20 families in the community of Ayyalur in Tamil Nadu, India. Some of the families supported are affected by HIV/AIDS and are often stigmatized for the same.

Results

With the new facilities, the families now have access to decent and clean private toilets and a weather proofed place for residence. This is a vast improvement in their quality of life and socio-economic status.

Looking forward:

The housing committee formed for the monitoring of the implementation, will continue to function and identify new needy families and link them with local government departments and donors
